School advocacy is supporting a student with a learning or emotional disability to help them get the supports and services they need from a school district. In the over fifteen years I have been involved in the special education system in public schools I have teamed with many parents to assure their child receives appropriate instruction, service, adaptation, accommodation and/or equipment needed to "level the playing field" of the classroom. All children have a right to be successful in their education. Among advocacy services I offer are to go with parents/students to IEP meetings, review their child's eligibility and goals for special education, and make sure parents/students are fully informed about their rights in special education.
